Pain relief is not the same as good health

In reply to the bit about physiotherapy and its ineffectiveness as put forth by the BMJ study (WDDTY vol 15 no 10, page 6), as a chiropractor, I am aware of these studies that say people get the same results with one treatment or exercises alone. They are total rubbish.

The result these researchers speak of is pain relief; they say nothing about functional wellness. The lack of pain does not equate health. As the WHO reminds us, health is the state of total mental, physical and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of symptoms.

I often treat long past visit one and visit six; my patients not only have improvement in pain but, more importantly, ongoing benefit from structural changes and fewer relapses that exercise alone cannot accomplish. - Dr Paula Moore, via e-mail
