Patients undergoing major abdominal surgery may have an increased risk of developing gallstones within three years after surgery.

In a study conducted at the University of Sydney in New South Wales, almost a third (28 per cent) of a study group of patients who'd undergone major abdominal surgery had developed gallstones between one and three years after their operation.
