Fluoride : dentists sue

Forty American dentists are suing the American Dental Association for alleged distribution of misinformation to its members about the dangers of fluoridation.

The lawsuit, which coincides with the release of a government study linking fluoride use to cancer, claims that fluoride potentially causes birth defects as well as cancer, and that using fluoride does not significantly reduce tooth decay.

The suit also charges that the ADA attempted to pressure the US government to increase the maximum dose of fluoride in public drinking water.

As a result of one toxicity study showing, as it cautiously put it, "equivocal" evidence that fluoride causes bone cancer, the union for employees of the Environmental Protection Agency has asked the EPA to "issue a health warning recommending that fluoridation be stopped immediately."
