Radiographs help in just 3% of cases

Chest radiographs should not be given as routine to patients entering coronary care units, heart specialists have concluded. Specialists at one heart hospital in Birmingham, England have already stopped using the test as routine procedure, and are ur

They point to studies that show radiographs have helped establish diagnosis in only 3 per cent of cases, and have helped alter a change in policy in 7 per cent of cases. In another study, 75 per cent of clinicians admitted they had not even looked at the radiographs.

The specialists, at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, say radiographs need be given only to fulfill a specific clinical need.
