Case study

A 51-year-old woman came to see me with menopausal symptoms. Since then, she had suffered frequent migraine attacks with nausea and vomiting, and leg cramps; her contact lenses had begun to hurt her eyes.

As a schoolgirl, she had tested allergic to ‘horse dander’. Ten months before coming to me, her GP had put her on HRT using horse-derived oestrogens. I ordered a blood test, which confirmed her extreme sensitivity to equine products.

Once she’d stopped the HRT, her symptoms vanished, but eventually returned. I then prescribed phytoestrogens and a herbal tincture to stimulate progesterone production. This has now done the trick.
