Want to live a long time? Well, don’t be overweight, underweight or obese. Any one of these will shorten your days, a study has concluded.
Your only chance is to be ‘normal’ according to the BMI (body mass index) scale, or slightly overweight, if that ideal is hard to come by.
If you’re underweight, you won’t live as long as a ‘normal’ person. The good news is that you probably won’t die from cancer or heart disease.
If you’re overweight, you’re likely to die from diabetes or kidney disease. The good news for you, too, is that you probably won’t die from cancer or heart failure.
Those ends are reserved for the obese person, who also runs a greater risk of have diabetes and kidney disease, too. Being obese was the worst of the three weight profiles, the researchers conclude.
