Why not eat raw foods?

I was surprised to read in your detox article (WDDTY, vol 9, no 11) that one should "avoid raw foods". I have always been told that raw food is generally more beneficial than cooked because the enzymes and vitamins have not been destroyed. Bryan Pinches, e-mail.....

WDDTY replies: Although the nutritive value of raw foods is indisputable, Dr Leo Galland and many other nutritional specialists now recommend that all foods be cooked because uncooked foods, particularly raw meat or fish (sushi), often contain parasites. Eat raw foods only at home. Avoid salad bars a prime haven for parasites.
