Baby milk ads face uk ban

Even the British government is saying that breast is best. It is banning all advertising of baby milk preparations except in publications to health care professionals.

Food minister Nicholas Soames has taken this unexpected step, which is more stringent than a European Union directive.

While the directive also bans advertising except in publications to the health care system, Mr Soames was concerned that it still allowed advertisements to appear in baby care publications available to the public.

Paradoxically, he is allowing the advertising of tobacco and cigarettes to continue, although the final decision will be voted on by all MPs. He said that cigarette smoking was a matter of personal free will, while the government had a duty to protect the interests of newborns, who are unable to exercise choice.
