Your report on diabetes (WDDTY vol 13 no 12) was useful and timely, and a valuable aid for ongoing client education on the correlation between food intake and wellbeing. I was, however, rather sad to see all the credit for the relationship between high GI foods and pancreatic dysfunction attributed almost solely to the French scientist Dr Michel Montignac.

When I was doing my thesis on diabetes some time ago, I leant heavily on a book by Brian Scott Peskin called Radiant Health: Moving Beyond the Zone (Noble Publishing, 2001), which is a very significant body of research on diet and nutrition. And what of the much maligned Dr Atkins? A quick look at his original diet book is sufficient to acknowledge that the tie-up between high carbohydrate intake and insulin/glucose regulatory resistance is not new.- Helena Pike, via e-mail
