Sodium content in softened water

Dear WDDTY

We have had a water softener at home for a number of years. From the reading I have done I understand the debate about not drinking softened water to be mainly about sodium intake. The Water Quality Association says: "For those who have softened water in their home, figure an average intake of 60 milligrams (of sodium) per day from the water. Compared to the average intake from foods estimated at 36,500 milligrams this figure is minimal." J F, Caddington.....

As sodium in the diet has been linked with heart disease and cancer, it's prudent to avoid adding more to your diet.
