Drug immune candida detected

A new form of candida is developing in North America which is resistant to anti fungal agents.

Although candida albicans remains the most common form of the fungal growth, doctors have noted that various new strains including Torulopsis glabrata, C tropicalis, C parapsilosis, C krusei and C lusitaniae are, between them, now forming about half of all cases seen.

Worryingly, these new strains seem immune to drug treatments such as fluconazole, a phenomenon previously only seen before among AIDS patients.
