Scientists back whistleblower on gm foods scare

A group of scientists from 13 countries has supported calls for a moratorium on genetically modified (GM) foods. The scientists have read unpublished research that has raised fears of potential health hazards.

They have confirmed the findings of Dr Arpad Pusztai, which show immune system changes and organ damage in rats fed on genetically modified potatoes (BMJ, 1999; 318: 483).
