Selenium disappearing from depleted soils

Dr John Millward of Bournemouth (WDDTY vol 13 no 6) tells us of the importance of selenium, the lack of which is sometimes misdiagnosed. What he does not say is that our soils are deficient in this and other trace minerals, having been exploited for more that 100 years, with only the most basic chemical fertilisers returned to them.

This in the face of recent controversial EU proposals wishing to limit vitamin and mineral supplements, and blatantly stating that a balanced diet is all we need!
